Iris Gomez was born in Cartagena, Colombia and immigrated to the U.S.
as a child. When Comets Rained is her second volume of poetry. She is
also the author of Housicwhissick Blue:
Poetry of the Blue Hills Reservation (The Edwin Mellen Press, 2003),
a collection based on Massachusetts Native American and natural history.
Her work has received prominent recognition, including in the 2001
Chicano/Latino Literary Prize competition sponsored by the University
of California/Irvine. In addition to an M.F.A. in poetry, she holds a
law degree and works for public interest organization in Boston.
She is regarded as a national expert on asylum law and the rights of immigrants,
and she lectures at Boston University School of Law.
